The Best Ways To Shed Weight

February 8th, 2010

If you decide that you want to keep to a traditional style diet, as a rule of thumb, you ought to find a weight loss plan that is rich in fresh fruit and vegetables; low-fat dairy products; white meat and fish; whole grain cereals and plenty of drinking water and by that I mean at least eight to ten 250mm glasses a day.

Being heavy can cause a lot of other issues, in addition it being a problem in its own right. Obesity makes rapid movement, stretching and reaching tricky. Surplus perspiration can be an embarrassment and it can result in chaffing. The range of fashionable clothing obtainable can be constrained too. Besides these issues, studies have shown that being overweight invariably leads to health problems such as hypertension, heart troubles, sleep apnea and diabetes.

The only solution to this bundle of problems is to lose those spare pounds around your waist by embarking on a healthy weight loss diet plan and following it faithfully. I will give you a few general pointers below to help you slim down and decrease the risk of spending your latter years running in and out of hospital.

Almost all of the traditional weight loss diet plans proposed by dietitians and nutritionists start with the simple exhortation to reduce your food consumption to the amount you require to carry out your every day routine. The problem is that it sounds simple, but it is one of the hardest things to do. It takes a lot of determination on your part. However, you could start by eating and drinking three-quarters of what you normally eat. Once you can handle that, reduce the percentage again.

Try to make every calorie count. By that, I mean, if you are going to eat 200 calories, make certain that they are contained in food that will do you good and keep you feeling satiated. A bar of chocolate will give you a blood-sugar rush for 20-30 minutes, but a doorstep of a cheese and salad sandwich made from whole grain bread washed down with a glass or two of water will give you plenty of fibre and vitamins and fill you up for a couple of hours.

It is always a good idea to keep a journal of what you consume and when. This way you can compare days and weeks and see what works best. It also helps if you are reducing your consumption in stages. Mark what you eat with the amount of calories in that portion. If you do not know accurately, guess it. Writing something down is better than nothing.

The next part is the part I don’t like – exercise. Regular exercise. The good news is that it does not have to be too much. Two thirty minute walks a day is quite helpful. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Or walk in your lunch time and after your evening meal. If you like, frequent visits to the fitness center are even better, but they are also easier to miss or give up altogether.

Extreme Weight Loss Diet-How To Lose Weight Faster Than You Thought possible

February 7th, 2010

I don’t think anyone would disagree with me when I say having a nice looking body is one of the most sought after things. You not only gain confidence by having other people look at you wishing they had your body, but you feel better about yourself. In this article, we will be going over three great tips to help you put together an extreme weight loss diet. After you finish reading this article you will realize how easy it is to shed off all the pounds.

1-Don’t just eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner

If you have only been eating your average of three meals per day, this needs to stop. You should be eating at least five smaller meals per day and never go over five hours without eating. Some of you may be wondering how eating more often helps lose weight. Once you go four hours without eating your metabolism starts to slow down which means you don’t burn as many calories. If you eat every two to three hours, you will keep your metabolism going fast.

2-Breakfast is your best friend, not your enemy

As I am sure you have already heard before, breakfast is by far the most important meal of the day. If you skip breakfast or just have a really small breakfast you will slow down your metabolism for the rest of the day. When you eat breakfast, you want to make sure it consist mostly of protein and carbs, try to keep the fat under ten grams. Oatmeal with a protein drink is perfect.

3-Avoid cakes and candy

When it comes to losing weight, the two most dangerous words in the English dictionary consist of cakes and candy. The only time it is ok to consume a lot of sugar is before and after a workout, because most of the sugar will be delivered to your muscles rather than fat storage. Having some fruit right after a workout is great because these are loaded with sugar but also vitamins and minerals.

Menopause And Weight Increase

January 27th, 2010

Studies of women aged fifty and over reveal that most women in this age group are convinced that their weight increase is connected with the menopause in their judgment. If you take into account the fact that some people might be using this as an excuse and that others may not have made allowances in their diet for decreased levels of activity due to lifestyle alterations, it is still difficult to explain why women in this age group have a tendency to put excess weight on different parts of the body, in particular the abdomen, whereas any weight gained in younger women tends to be on the hips.

In fact, the truth is that hormonal changes do have a part to play in this phenomenon, although the method is not completely understood. At menopause a woman stops ovulating, her monthly menstruation periods end, and her body produces much lower levels of the female hormone estrogen, which is responsible for the ovulation process.

Low estrogen has been shown to cause weight gain in animals and it is almost certainly the reason why women’s bodies change shape. While women of childbearing age store fat in the lower body, after the menopause they amass it on the abdomen instead, like men. This leads to a greater risk of heart disease.

At the same time, both men and women tend to find muscle turning to fat as they grow older and the metabolism slows down. This means that if you do not adjust your eating habits, you will probably find that your weight increases. A person of 60 just does not need as many calories as a person of 40.

Hormonal therapy with estrogen is sometimes prescribed to control menopausal symptoms. Many women will be surprised to hear that studies have shown that hormonal therapy does not result in weight increase. Some women go through bloating and water retention in the early stages of hormonal therapy but this is usually temporary.

Hormonal therapy can diminish the risk of heart disease by preventing the changes in storage of body fat around the abdomen and lowering cholesterol. On the other hand, hormonal therapy has been associated with an increased risk of breast cancer in some studies.

If you find that you are gaining weight around the menopause, there are several things you can do.

Firstly, you should eat a healthy, low fat diet with plenty of fibre and avoid sugar.

Secondly, you need to take regular exercise. As people get older their physical activity levels naturally go down. Work frequently becomes less physically demanding, there are no kids to run around after, we take less active holidays and do things more slowly. Thirty minutes of moderate physical activity every day will help to balance out the effect of this.

Thirdly. you must preserve your muscle strength and mass. Use weights for arm muscles and walking or cycling for your legs.

Fourthly, try not to become worried about the changes to the shape of your body. If you are not too overweight, but just have a thicker waist and slimmer legs, then don’t worry.

As usual, you should seek advice from your doctor before commencing any exercise routine, if you have any medical conditions or if your fitness levels are low. Your doctor can also help with symptoms of the menopause and weight gain.

January 24th, 2010

The treatment of acne is usually the correct thing to do, if you have it, but not at all times. There are times in a person’s life when you can not treat acne, just because you’d like to and, unfortunately, pregnancy is one of those times. Everyone knows, that this is a delicate part in a woman’s life and that therefore she has to show extra care of herself. If a pregnant woman wants to try to cure her acne, she must make sure that she equips herself with the right information.

This should also be remembered by those women who may get pregnant. The following are some cures for acne that are not good for use during pregnancy since they are harmful to the fetus:

Hormonal Treatment that may include estrogen, flutamide or spirolactone. They are definitely not allowed, because they are injurious and could result in problems for both the mother and her child. It is better see it as a threat.

Isotretinoin treatment is another one that could put a pregnant woman’s life at risk. Isotretinoin has negative effects too, especially for pregnant women and those who are breast-feeding. It may cause severe health issues in both the mother and the unborn baby. Therefore, it is advised that a woman who is on Isotretinoin must be checked by a doctor. Women who are trying to become pregnant must avoid the use of Isotretinoin, because it may just trigger negative issues not only for mother but most especially for her child.

Oral tetracyclines which could consist of doxycycline, tetracycline or minocycline, may not be an option on any account, because it is harmful. It has been shown that pregnant women or those who are breast-feeding must refuse the use of this drug at all costs, because it may produce side effects that are nothing short of life-threatening to you and your baby, although the most frequent side effect is the permanent discoloration of your teeth or / and bone issues.

Topical retinoids, such as tazarotene, adapalene and tretinoin, is another group that should be stringently avoided. Just like the above-mentioned therapies, topical retinoids may be a danger to you and your baby. No matter whether you are pregnant or not, it is just not a good idea to take any of the therapies mentioned above.

For those women, who are pregnant and have acne, it really is best to stay away from the heavy treatments mentioned here. Instead, why not settle for traditional remedies, like keeping your hair off your face, washing your face three-four times a day, changing your pillow cases every day and eating more fruit and avoiding fatty, oily and spicy food.

Acne Problems

January 11th, 2010

Acne is one of the commonest skin problems afflicting the human race and it affects people irrespective of age, caste, colour or gender. Acne is an extremely embarrassing and troublesome problem, because it is so obvious and off-putting. Acne can be defined as red eruptions on the skin, sometimes containing a white substance, causing discomfort and irritation. The most common form of acne is called acne vulgaris or puberty spots.

Acne vulgaris can be described thus: … an inflammatory disease of the skin, caused by changes in the pilosebaceous units (skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland) . Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, spots or zits – [source: Wikipedia]. It is a heart-breaking problem that we do not appear to have complete control over. However, there are various ways to treat acne: you can go in for medication from a skin specialist or you can go in for home or natural treatments.

Home treatments are less time consuming, less costly and have no side effects. However, they do require a little more patience, because certain routines have to be followed diligently in order to cure the problem once and for all. A natural remedy for acne is just as effective as medication. Here are a few natural cures to cure your acne. To start with, your daily consumption of water ought to be a minimum of eight to ten glasses. This helps you to detoxify your system and kill the harmful bacteria that cause acne.

Too much oily food also leads to acne, so fried and spicy food should be strictly avoided. Complete abstinence of fried and fatty food will have a marked, beneficial effect on an outbreak of acne. Furthermore, including chromium and zinc in your diet also helps to cure acne. There needs to be a combination of the right nutritional balance and proper, hygenic skin care.

A mixture of ground nutmeg with fresh milk regularly applied on the affected area also helps to eradicate acne. Cinnamon powder and honey is equally efficacious in eradicating. The cooled liquid from boiled Neem leaves applied to acne works as a disinfectant. [The Neem Tree is a tall, usually evergreen East Indian tree (Azadirachta indica) widely cultivated in tropical Asia for its timber, resin, bitter bark, and aromatic seed oil, which is used medicinally and as an insecticide (source: 'Free Online Dictionary')].

The afflicted area should be washed with anti-acne soap at least three or four times a day. Make-up should be strictly avoided when suffering from acne. Make-up makes acne worse. Acne should never be squeezed as it may cause infection or / and make it worse. Squeezing your acne can also lead to permanent scars on your skin, which leaves your skin looking rough. Don’t let your hair touch the acne-affected area too.

Your hair should be kept tied back to avoid touching the acne. Pillow covers should be washed on a daily basis to prevent the bacteria spreading. The regular washing of your skin should be observed to keep it free from bacteria. Besides this, a healthy lifestyle ought to followed with a proper, balanced diet, exercise and sleep. Remember if you take good care of yourself, illnesses will have trouble afflicting you, especially a small thing like as acne!

Free Weight Loss Plans

January 11th, 2010

The race to fitness is on and plenty of people are getting in on the act. Some people do it in order to achieve a sexy body, some people just do it because they are embarrassed about their body, while others do it just to remain fit and healthy. As such, there are many fitness programs available on the Internet, in gyms, spas and fitness centres all over the world. Some are very – so expensive that you will lose weight just by trying to earn the money needed to pursue these fitness programs.

You might not have to go to the gymnasium, the spa or any fitness centre and spend much just to slim down and get that longed for beautiful body. There are so many books in the bookshops offering weight loss programs which are convenient and free. However, the books are not cheap though. These diet plans are gaining immense popularity due to their publicity, testimonials and reviews and you may be confused as to exactly which one to follow. So before you choose which weight loss plan to follow, try checking out the following summaries of the most popular diet programs out today.

Atkins’ New Diet Revolution by Dr. Atkins: This diet plan promotes a high protein diet with a restricted carbohydrate consumption. You can dine heartily on vegetables and meat, but must not eat bread, rice or pasta. You are not restricted with your fat intake so it is all right to pour on the (correct) salad dressing and freely spread on the butter. However, during the diet, some people may find themselves short on fibre and high on fat and cholesterol. Grains and fruits are also severely restricted.

The Carbohydrate Addict’s Diet by Drs. Heller. This diet plan also recommends low carbohydrate food. It approves eating meats, vegetables and fruits, dairy and grain products. however, warns against taking in too many carbohydrates. “Reward” meals can be very high in fats and saturated fats.

Choose to Lose: by Dr. Goor. It recommends restricting your fat intake. You are given a “fat” budget but you are given freedom on how to spend it. It does not force people to regulate their carbohydrate consumption. Eating meat and poultry as well as low-fat dairy and seafood is no problem. You may also consume vegetables, fruits, cereals, bread and pasta. This weight loss plan is quite healthy, because it recommends healthy amounts of fruits and vegetables as well as saturated fats. Watch your triglyceride levels though. If they are high, cut down on the carbohydrates and eat more unsaturated fats.

The DASH Diet. Advocates moderate amounts of fat and protein but lots of carbohydrates. Primarily designed to lower blood pressure, so the diet plan follows the pyramid food guide and encourages a high intake of whole wheat grains and fruit and vegetables and low-fat dairy. Some dieters think it advocates too much consumption to produce significant weight loss.

Eat More, Weigh Less: by Dr. Ornish. Mostly a vegetarian food and low-fat program. Advises to look out for low-fat dairy and egg whites. This diet plan is low in calcium and limits the consumption of healthy foods like seafood and lean poultry.

Eat Right for Your Type: This plan is really unusual because it bases its recommendations on your blood type. For example, it recommends plenty of meat for people with the blood type O. However, diet plans for some blood types are nutritionally unbalanced and too low in calories. Furthermore, just for the record, there is no proof that blood type can affect dietary needs.

The Pritkin Principle: It focuses on cutting back on the amount of calories by eating ‘wet’ foods that make you feel full. It recommends eating vegetables, fruits, oatmeal, pasta, soups, salads and low-fat dairy, which it says is fine, although it also limits protein sources to lean meat, seafood and poultry. It is healthy since it allows low amounts of saturated fats and rather large amounts of vegetables and fruits. However, it is low on calcium and restricts lean protein sources.

Volumetrics: It provides for eating fewer calories. It advises roughly the same foods as Pritkin but limits fatty food and dry foods like popcorn, pretzels and crackers. This program is reasonably healthy given the high amounts of fruit and vegetables. It is also low in calories and saturated fats.

The Zone: It is moderately low on carbohydrates but fairly high on proteins. It encourages low-fat protein foods like fish and chicken plus vegetables, fruits and grains. It is also a healthy diet but lacking in grains and calcium.

Weight Watchers: They recommend high carbohydrate meals, but are moderate on fats and proteins. A very healthy diet program and very flexible too. It permits the dieter to devise his own meals rather than offering recipes, although there are Weight Watchers’ TV dinners in the supermarkets.

Is The Atkins Grapefruit Diet Real?

December 24th, 2009

The Atkins Grapefruit diet is a diet plan, not endorsed by the company of Dr. Atkins, that plays on the popularity of the grapefruit diet and the Atkins diet name. A closer inspection of this diet reveals that it may not be everything it purports to be.

First of all, it’s very difficult to find information on the Atkins grapefruit diet plan. Smart people know that when anyone is perpetrating a deception, or a con, they will usually gloss over facts. This is what the Atkins grapefruit diet seems to do in an attempt to get people to associate it with two supposedly effective diets.

Is the Atkins Grapefruit Diet part of the Atkins Diet or endorsed by the estate of the late Dr. Atkins? The answer is no, not only is there no mention of the Atkins Grapefruit Diet on the Atkins website, but there is no fruit of any kind mentioned in the list of permitted foods in the Atkins diet Induction phase.

The induction phase recommends the following foodstuffs:

Fish of all kinds. All fowl such as turkey and chicken. All shellfish. All meat such as beef or pork. Eggs cooked in all styles, including fried. Cheese. Vegetables. Herbs and Spices. Fats and Oils. Low carbohydrate beverages, including diet sodas.

Do you notice anything? No fruit is mentioned on that list. Later phases of the Atkins diet do include small amounts of fruits such as cantaloupe, strawberries and even lemon juice, and the pre-maintenance and maintenance phases even specifically allow limited amounts of grapefruit. But when compared to the amount of Grapefruit recommended on the Atkins Grapefruit Diet, again there is a discrepancy.

The Atkins Grapefruit Diet recommends a cup of grapefruit juice or a cup of grapefruit sections, with 8 and 18 carbs respectively. Even the most generous phases of the Atkins diet recommends limiting grapefruit intake to below 8 carbs per day. That’s a direct contradiction of one diet with the other.

Most intelligent people would inspect the Atkins website itself the moment they heard about the Atkins Grapefruit Diet. If they saw no mention of that diet on the website, then a red light would go off and an alarm would sound.

In general, you should remember this: any diet that relies too heavily on one foodstuff, such as grapefruit on a grapefruit diet, is unhealthy for any but extremely short periods. The Atkins Grapefruit Diet is not associated with the Atkins diet, and may interfere with the results of the Atkins diet in its early stages.

Do you want to lose those excess pounds rapidly? Well, take a free look at Atkins Grapefruit Diet, by visiting our resource called The Atkins Diet Plan This and other unique content ” articles are available with free reprint rights.

Home Acne Treatments

December 21st, 2009

Every person understands the value of our facial appearance. The more handsome it is, the more advantageous it gets. Above anything else, it is the very first thing that others see when they see you. Generally, our confidence depends on our level of contentment with our physical appearance. When one knows he or she looks good, confidence really zooms.

When growing up, the development of acne or even pimples is a major problem. If you do not have problems involving your face, then congratulations. On the other hand, if you are one of the majority who do have a problem, there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Is acne one of your issues? Are you spending too much money on chemical acne remedies? Do you want to apply a treatment but you are worried that it may be a bit on your skin? Then try a more natural way of curing your acne. You do not have to go very far to do it, because the treatment is right there in your own home. The doctor is within you. The most effective beauty tip of all time is: drink at least 8 glasses of water daily. Hydrating your body will help you wash away your toxins. Take care of your body and take care of your skin.

Healthy and clean mannerisms can also help. Make sure that you do not leave make-up on your skin because it contributes to the clogging of your pores, thus causing even more pimples and blackheads. Never sleep with your make-up on. Also, always keep your hair away from your face, because hair contains oil that may create breakouts in your skin.

Wash your pillow case and face towels very often. Daily, if possible. They are absorbent and they also hold acne-contributors like oil and bacteria too. Lastly, never, ever pick your acne or pimples, since you do not want your face to be as infected as your fingernails.

You should eat healthy, natural food when you have acne, because you should try to cleanse yourself not only outside but also from the inside. It would really help too, if you could reduce your consumption of oily, fatty food. Eating food rich in fibre is a cure, since the fibre helps cleanse your body of toxins too. Furthermore, eating food that is considered anti-oxidant would help a lot in order for you to maintain a healthy skin. Moreover, food rich in Vitamins A, B and D, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, chloride, magnesium, zinc, iron and sodium is also a great help too.

When you follow a diet which is high in beta-carotene and zinc, it is of help not only in the prevention but as well as in the healing process and anti-scarring by acne. Beauty is only skin deep. Yes, but having beautiful skin will make you feel more beautiful and confident in your self.
